‘Take firm action against rioters’

-

MALACCA: Supporters of Pasir Salak member of parliament (MP) Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman should be made answerable to Parliament for causing a ruckus on Thursday.

MP Sim Tong Him (DAP-Kota Laksamana) said such an action was unparliamentary and unacceptable, urging for action to be taken against the group.

“Parliament is the highest legislative house where all MPs, including ministers and prime minister, are in the building to pass laws and motions.

“If the Parliament building becomes unsafe, then where else can be safe? I feel uneasy about how this could have happened in Parliament,” Sim said.

He said action must be taken against the group to prevent a similar incident from recurring.

“If this is not taken seriously, it may happen again some day. Anyone can wear a coat and come inside. MPs can be attacked by terrorists,” he said.

Sim said there was freedom of assembly in the country and urged dissatisfied quarters to voice their dissatisfaction through legal means.

“Such an argument (between Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad and Tajuddin) is common in Parliament. You (referring to Tajuddin’s son) should ask your father to file a suit or hold a press conference instead of resorting to violence by bringing others.

“This is more so for the son of an MP, who wants to protect the position and integrity of his father.

“He should better protect the position of his father, who is not only an MP but also a deputy minister, instead of doing immature things,” he said.

MP Datuk Koh Nai Kwong (MCA-Alor Gajah) condemned the group, saying the action was unprecedented.

“Such an act should not have happened in Parliament.

“We will leave it to the good hands of Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia to decide what action is to be taken,” he said.
