NSTP bags awards at media night
RECOGNITION:
Press group won first and third prizes for print category
THE New Straits Times Press (NSTP) bagged two awards at the Rural and Regional Development Ministry’s media night.
NSTP group managing editor Datuk Abdul Jalil Hamid and journalist Zaidi Isham Ismail took third place for the print category.
The duo received a trophy, certificates and RM1,000 cash prize.
Harian Metro’s Mahaizura Abd Malik won first prize in the print category, bringing home a trophy, a certificate and RM3,500 cash prize.
The awards were presented by Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The awards saw 100 entries competing for three categories — Best Photo, Best Electronic Media Report and Best Print Media Report.
Ismail said the inaugural award, judged by the Malaysian Press Institute, was to give recognition to the work of media practitioners in highlighting issues pertaining to rural development.
“The media plays an important role in shaping the perception of the people towards the ministry.”
At the Bollywood-themed event, Ismail announced that Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) would provide scholarships for 10 media practitioners yearly to pursue Master's degree locally.
“I know many media practitioners are studying part time to raise their competency. And since Mara does sponsor students locally and abroad, I am pleased to announce that we will have a quota for media practitioners to further their studies in fields related to the media industry,” he said.
Present were Media Prima Bhd group managing editor (news and current affairs, TV networks) Datuk Seri Mohd Ashraf Abdullah and Berita Harian group editor Datuk Mahfar Ali.
