Prasarana to offer Bumi firms about 50pc of contracts in LRT3 project

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd will offer an estimated 45 to 50 per cent of the contracts in the 37km Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) project between Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya and Johan Setia, Klang, to Bumiputera companies.

In a statement yesterday, Prasarana said the move would be via a collaborative effort with the government’s Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju), Contractor and Entrepreneur Division of the Ministry of Works and the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).

Prasarana Rail and Infrastructure Projects Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Khairani Mohamed said through the programme, Bumiputera companies will benefit from the opportunity to work alongside established multinational companies in the industry.

Prasarana said the collaboration will provide opportunities for Grade 2 to Grade 4 Bumiputera contractors under CIDB to grow and develop capacity as well as capability via participation in large-scale infrastructure projects.

The G2-G4 grading referred to small and medium enterprises, which were allowed to tender for projects worth RM200,000 to RM500,000 (G2), RM500,000 to RM1 million (G3) and RM1 million to RM3 million (G4), it said.

It said a tender briefing was held in Putrajaya yesterday, which saw the participation of 135 companies.

“Two weeks following the tender briefing date, the companies will be required to submit supporting documents in order to qualify.

“The work packages will be awarded via balloting by Prasarana and witnessed by LRT3’s project delivery partner, MRCB George Kent Sdn Bhd,” it said.

Prasarana said the main work packages under the LRT3 were required to be divided into 135 smaller work packages worth RM60 million. Bernama
