WHO HARASSED COUNCIL OFFICER

JAIL, FINE FOR COUPLE

-

DATELINE A couple who harassed a female Shah Alam City Council officer in Sungai Buloh on Thursday have been sentenced to 14 days’ jail and ordered to pay fines of RM3,000 each yesterday.

Lor Ka Hoo, 35, and his wife, Tan Sit Fun, 30, received the sentence after pleading guilty to charges of using criminal force to obstruct a public servant from carrying out her duty under Section 353 of the Penal Code before magistrate P. Sarulatha.

They were accused of committing the offence at 10.24am in Jalan BRP 6/11, Bukit Rahman Putra.

Sarulatha granted the couple a stay of execution, pending an appeal and granted bail at RM2,000 each.

According to the facts of the case, the duo had used force against city council officer Nurul Ain Isa, 23, who was with a colleague.

Nurul Ain had issued a summons to the couple as their vehicle, which was parked on the road, did not have a parking ticket.

A video of the incident went viral yesterday. In the clip, the couple could be seen harassing Nurul Ain.

Tan was seen holding on to Nurul Ain’s uniform, while Lor blocked her from leaving.

They allegedly only let her go after she cancelled the summons.

Nurul Ain lodged a report against the couple at the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters.

Police arrested the couple at the scene.

Meanwhile, there was little if not any sympathy from Netizens for the couple.

Most Netizens applauded the action against the couple, who they felt were out of bounds against a civil servant who was carrying out her duty.

Many said the couple deserved what the law served up against them and, in fact, they should have faced harsher punishment.

Alex Choo said: “They deserved it... ignorant, stupid and arrogant”.

Netizen Angah Majujaya said: “Sorg kecik sorg besar mmg padan pun padan mukooo...”

Abdul Salem said since the couple were given bail, the assumption was that they might not spend time in jail, while Benjamin Sebastian Raymond felt that the punishment received by the couple was too lenient.

Maaran Subramaniam said the move to punish the couple was a very good move, and added that they should face the maximum sentence, so that next time they would not repeat such an offence.

Foo Wee Chin asked why the female suspect was bowing her head.

Alex Heng was blunt in his views, saying that the couple deserved it for not respecting the law.
