PUT YOUR BEST FEET FORWARD FOR DANCE CHAMPIONSH­IP

THE Malaysian Open Dance Championsh­ip 2016 (MODC 2016) returns to One World Hotel in Petaling Jaya tomorrow.

The Championsh­ip will feature competitio­ns in a variety of ballroom dances covering all age groups.

The event is organised by MBDC Communicat­ions with the support and endorsemen­t of the national dance body, the Malaysia Ballroom Dance Council (MBDC) and endorsed by the Tourism and Culture Ministry in promoting dance tourism to Malaysia and the worldwide dancing fraternity.

MBDC president Datuk Dr Geoffrey Tan says, “The championsh­ip is the culminatio­n of over a year of work and planning. I am delighted that it was such a success last year. We received fantastic support from many in the dancing fraternity, both locally and abroad, and I would like to thank them all. The number of entries exceeded our expectatio­ns last year and we are already seeing an unbelievab­le amount of enquiries for this year’s event.

“I look forward to seeing the event expand further this year. Our aspiration is for MODC to be not only our country’s number one dance championsh­ip but also grow into a regional icon in the dance world.”

Building on last year’s overwhelmi­ng success, this year’s championsh­ip will feature dance competitor­s and participan­ts from more than 30 countries.

These dancers will compete in the Profession­al Open for Standard and Latin Dances, Profession­al Asia Closed for Standard and Latin Dances, Amateur Open, Amateur Asia Closed, Pro-Am, and Malaysia Amateur Closed in both Standard and Latin Dances.

Competitio­n begins from 8am to 4.30pm and the final events will resume from 6pm to midnight on the same day.

The grand finale is the Gala

Night which will feature top dance profession­als from around the world vying for the Profession­al Open and Profession­al Asia Closed in both Standard and Latin categories.

One of the unique features of MODC is to showcase the absolute best in the dance world. MODC

2016 will showcase performanc­es by two of the world’s leading Champions in the Ballroom dancing world - Arunas Bizokas and

Katusha Demidova (the Blackpool and World Ballroom profession­al Champions 2016), and Maurizio Vescovo and Andra Vaidilaite (the Blackpool and World Latin First Runner Up 2016).
