Contribute ideas to TN50, university students told

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak wants university students to contribute ideas on the 2050 National Transformation (TN50) initiative to help pave the country’s future direction.

He said he wanted TN50 to be an initiative that came not only from the grassroots, but also from the hearts and minds of students, especially university student leaders.

“TN50 is for all of you. (Youth and Sports Minister) Khairy Jamaluddin has started a discourse with the youth, and I will make the final call after taking into account views, ideas and suggestions from all groups.

“So, when we chart the country’s new direction, we will make this a vision for all Malaysians, especially the younger generation,” he said at the closing of the National Graduate Leadership Conference (Pemanas) 4.0 here last night.

Present were Najib’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, Khairy and Umno information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

Najib said Malaysia was on the right track and called on the youth to create a personal roadmap to guide themselves and how they could contribute to the country.

“All I ask is for each of you to create a roadmap. You need to envision where you will be in the future and how to add value to yourself, your family and the country.”

He said to succeed in an increasingly competitive world, it was important for the younger generation to gain skills and knowledge.

“The basis of all this is your identity, which is being Malay and Muslim. You have a bright future.

“Umno is the foundation and driving force of the country.”

Najib, who is also Umno president, said the government could not make decisions based on populist ideals as it was a responsible government.

“We cannot only look at the shortterm effects. We must look beyond that, for the next generation to inherit a better Malaysia.”
