Gabriel Boschilia opened the scoring from a free-kick before Germain added two more of his own as Monaco put the game to bed before halftime, with substitute Guido Carrillo putting the gloss on the result at the death.

The result comes four days after Monaco beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 to secure qualification for the last 16 as winners of their Champions League group.

It was a fifth straight win in all for a shove on Victor Rodriguez but Duje Cop sent the penalty sailing over the bar to hand Real a somewhat fortuitous sixth successive league victory.

Real top the standings on 33 points, six ahead of Sevilla in second and seven ahead of

Barcelona, who played Real Sociedad late yesterday.

“It was a game to forget for us because nothing went how we wanted it to. We lacked a bit of everything but we’re happy with the three points, which is the most important thing,”

Real coach Zinedine Zidane said.

“We can’t be happy with our display but sometimes this happens. Above all I’m annoyed because we had the game in our hands and their goal changed the game, they came out more motivated in the second half. The game got complicated but we can be happy by the fact we’re still top and unbeaten.”

in their La Liga match on Saturday. Sevilla won 2-1. not limit our ambitions, but we have not built a team for the title.”

Bordeaux are sixth after making it six league games without defeat as Guinea forward Francois Kamano scored two late goals to secure a 3-2 win at home to Dijon.

They are behind Guingamp in fifth on goal difference with the Bretons coming from behind to draw 1-1 at Caen thanks to Nill De Pauw’s late leveller.

Bottom club Lorient threw away a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 at Metz while Montpellier’s meeting with Nancy ended goalless, as did the encounter between Nantes and managerless Lille. AFP
