IMAGINE a lighting system that can be controlled via apps from a remote place, or one that can tell you its current condition or knows that you are approaching and switches itself on, with the mood that you prefer.
Welcome to the world of smart connected lighting, where lights are no longer a boring, unnoticed part of the home or building, but one that can connect and communicate with you.
At a recent showcase at Philips MalayThe sia headquarters in Petaling Jaya, the Dutch lighting solution company demonstrated how connected, smart lighting innovations provide new value and experiences for consumers and businesses.
Its managing director for lighting, Alok Ghose, says digital lighting is the way to go for homes and offices.
“We want to unlock new values of digital lighting here with Philips latest solutions in digital and decorative lighting,” he says.
SMART LIGHTING
To let people see and experience this new concept of lightings, Philips has set up the Professional Lighting Experience Centre (PLEC) and Philips Home Lighting Lounge at its headquarters.
“Taking light beyond illumination, installations at both facilities will offer visitors new intuitive and customised lighting experiences for various applications in different environments,” says Ghose.
PLEC, the first-of-its kind in the country, showcases the latest and breakthrough in smart, connected LED solutions across various segments. Understanding the varied demands of different industries, the systems were developed to address the illumination needs of the commercial and urban spaces, as well as to enhance productivity, navigation, efficiency and safety as well as system management.
The centre uses technically advanced LED luminaries and wireless control systems which are connected via WiFi, GSM, Zigbee and Power-over-Ethernet, all of which to facilitate Internet of Things (IoT) using light points.
LIGHT STYLE
The Philips Lighting office is one of the early adopters of this smart lighting system. Equipped with luminaires that come with built-in sensing, programming and dynamic control modules, the office has smart digital lighting systems in its lobby, meeting and office rooms, work spaces and even the cafeteria.
The PLEC also features connected lighting solutions for various environments that include retail and fashion, hypermarket and malls, carparks, stadiums, street lighting and warehouses, all of which demonstrate how the right lighting at the right moment can help redefine commercial and urban spaces.
Meanwhile, the Philips Home Lighting Lounge showcases the variety and versatility of Philips Lighting.
Light beyond illumination comes alive with decorative LED solutions for the home, as applications of the lifestyle products and systems go beyond functionality. The Philips Home Lighting Lounge is designed in a home setting including outdoors. Visitors can experience meaningful innovations for personal living spaces , where intelligent yet aesthetic lighting can help home users achieve a harmonious ambience and make a statement in an eco-friendly manner.
The highlight of the Philips Lighting’s decorative range, the Philips Piano collection is its latest innovation which changes the way consumers interact with lighting fixtures. Inspired by the instrument, this collection signifies a minimalist expression of creative elegance, as its modular design allows consumers the freedom to personalise their own luminaire.
On top of that, they are able to adjust the light effect of the luminaire through a remote control, thus making perfect lighting only a fingertip away.
