KUALA LUMPUR: In conjunction with its 21st anniversary celebration, the Lion Group Medical Assistance Fund (LGMAF) has donated equipment worth RM21,000 to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (UKMMC).

Its chairman, Datin Coleen Herbert, said the contribution would help ease the burden of patients at the paediatrics unit and hospital.

“Since LGMAF’s inception, a total of RM7.6 million has been used to help patients who cannot afford to bear the cost of medical care and the cost of medical equipment, such as spinal implant for the correction of spinal curvature or scoliosis, and balloon and stents for heart surgery.

“We have also donated dialysis machines to charitable organisations, such as the National Kidney Foundation.

“Over the last nine years, we have donated medicine to medical camps, organised by the Rotary Club of Bukit Kiara Sunrise and Shah Alam,” she said yesterday.

UKMMC Head of Industry and Community Partnership, Professor Dr Sharifa Ezat Wan Puteh, said she was moved by LGMAF’s efforts to help people in need.

“The fund will be used to buy medical equipment and medicines for 32 patients.

“Among the medical equipment are blood pressure sets, portable suction machines with battery, spectra electric breast pumps, masimo radical-7 touch screen pulse oximeter sets and masks,” she said.

Patient Chong Lai San, 31, from Negri Sembilan, said she was grateful to receive the contribution from LGMAF.

“With the fund given, I can now buy an injection pen to be used at home. The pen needs to be replaced every month and the cost is about RM1,700,” said Chong, who suffers from a neuromuscular disorder

Last year, LGMAF, under the Lion Group of companies, contributed RM339,856.29 to PPUKM.
