MPB, NSTP deliver food to Serendah landslide victims

Arfiah Murah, 56, said she was counting down the days.
“I am restless here. I have one child in hospital whom I cannot visit because I’m here.
“All night long, the people here talk. I can’t sleep and it worsens my headaches.”
Arfiah is among 150 people from 34 families taking shelter at SRA Serendah following a landslide in her neighbourhood, which formed a 7m-deep sinkhole near their homes, cracked the access road and swallowed nine vehicles.
Arfiah spoke to the New Straits Times when the Media Prima BhdNew Straits Times Press Volunteer Brigade delivered food items to the residents. Tabung Bencana NSTPMedia Prima raised RM7,500 for the hampers.
Some 50 food hampers were distributed to the victims, volunteers from the Civil Defence, Welfare and Health Departments, People’s Volunteer Corps members and police officers.
Media Prima Corporate Social Responsibility and Sponsorship manager Muhammad Nazim Ismail, who led the trip involving seven volunteers, said the contribution was made possible through a collaboration with GCH Retail (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.
Residents’ representative Mohd Ramlan Mohd Amin, 51, said he was happy to receive the hampers and expressed his gratitude to the public for their generosity.
Resident Siti Zarina Alias, 44, said: “We have been receiving aid snce the tragedy struck.
“I can’t sleep at night because I am worried about my house, but there is no want for food here.”
