GIFT FROM PERLIS: Athletes to invest money in ASB 2

NATIONAL paralympians and local heroes Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi and Abdul Latif Romly have basked in the glory of their success, but with all the glamour and attention, they still keep an eye on their future.

Ridzuan and Latif, both from Perlis, were presented RM100,000 each by the Perlis government yesterday.

Unlike other incentives they received after the Rio Paralympics, this monetary prize would be invested into the Amanah Saham Bumiputera 2 (ASB 2) accounts.

The incentives were sponsored by an anonymous individual to be gifted to the state’s sons who put Malaysia on the world map in sports.

It was presented by Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man at Menara PNB here.

“The presentation of this gift has been delayed for two months due to the athletes’ training sessions.

“We have asked them whether they wanted to invest or keep the money, and they chose to invest it in ASB 2.

“This is good for their future. It is a recognition of their performance.

It is not only glory for them, but for the country as well,” Azlan said, adding that the state government would also give both athletes a house each in Perlis.

Present at the event were Permodalan Nasional Bhd president and group chief executive Datuk Abdul Rahman Ahmad and Perlis Youth and Sports Committee chairman Abdul Jamil Saad.
