Cops seek teens who attacked man who had told them off

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police are looking for a group of teenagers who assaulted a man with a machete after he told them off for being noisy when they were performing motorcycle stunts in front of his house in Bandar Selesa Jaya on Wednesday.

Three suspects, aged between 16 and 19, were picked up yesterday for alleged involvement in the parang attack against a 20-year old technician, who sustained a slash wound on his finger and had to have six stitches for the injury.

Iskandar Puteri police chief Superintendent Noor Hashim Mohamad said the attack might have been triggered by a misunderstanding between the suspects and victim.

“Around 11.30pm that night, the victim had reprimanded a group of youths for being noisy when using their motorcycles in front of the victim’s house. He had told them to stop,” he said.

Hashim said the suspects, comprising 10 teenagers in their 20s, tried to retaliate, but were stopped by another resident in the housing estate.

The teenagers, he added, had left the housing estate after the altercation. However, they had returned about 15 minutes later with reinforcements.

“The teenagers, who had been told to be quiet, had brought more people. One of them, armed with a machete, swung the weapon at the victim when they confronted him again in front of his house,” said Hashim, adding the attacker was believed to be drunk.

Hashim said barely 24 hours after the attack, three suspects were arrested in Bandar Selesa Jaya for their alleged involvement.

“We are looking for other group members,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapon.
