The In­done­sian ac­tor caught the at­ten­tion of movie­go­ers in Malaysia and his home coun­try af­ter play­ing Rangga, the lead char­ac­ter in the 2002 In­done­sian cult ro­mance, Ada Apa den­gan Cinta? It was a role he reprised in Ada Apa Den­gan Cinta? 2 which was re­leased ear­lier this year.

In 2005, he won Most Favourite Ac­tor at the MTV In­done­sia Movie Awards, and Best Ac­tor at the In­done­sian Movie Awards for his role in Joko An­war’s Janji Joni. He also took home Best Lead­ing Ac­tor at the Ci­tra Award in the same year for his role in Riri Riza’s Gie.

Nicholas, who is of Ger­man and In­done­sian de­scent, has a de­gree in ar­chi­tec­ture from the Uni­ver­sity of In­done­sia.

Tow­er­ing over every­one at 1.78m, he be­gan his ca­reer un­der the bright lights as a run­way model be­fore be­com­ing an ac­tor. He also ap­peared on Datuk Siti Nurhal­iza’s mu­sic video for her 2003 song De­baran Cinta.
