‘GMM all for terror prevention’

-

BANGI: The Global Movement of Moderates Foundation (GMM) is promoting the concept of Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) in support of the government’s efforts to curb the global threats of radicalisation, extremism and militancy, its chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Nasharudin Mat Isa, said.

Programmes in the PVE approach were important in creating a counter-narrative against extremism, he added.

“The government is preparing a module related to PVE because the threat (of extremism) we are facing is real. It is no longer a theory, so we must take a step forward by providing an approach to tackle the expansion of radical propaganda,” he said at the International Seminar on Islam and Global Peace (ISGaP) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia here yesterday.

Nasharudin said the foundation would share its findings, based on its PVE and Countering Violent Extremism programmes, with the government.

“Currently, we submit monthly reports of our activities to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, but we are gathering input from our programmes to come up with concrete suggestions on how to conduct PVE programmes.”

He said GMM had been conducting awareness programmes, such as forums and seminars, with students in the country and abroad, as well as government agencies.
