UNIVERSITI Utara Malaysia (UUM)’s ecotour- ism prospects received a boost when it won the Global Gold Medal in the Green World Awards 2016 for Education & Training held in Bucheon, South Korea, in October last year.

The award honours UUM for its commitment to best practices in environmen­tal protection and preservati­on.

Its vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak received a certificat­e and a trophy from The Green Organisati­on as well as a certificat­e formally naming UUM as the Ambassador of Green World 2016, a certificat­e giving recognitio­n to UUM as a Green World Leader, and a certificat­e signifying UUM’s triumph in the Green World Awards 2016.

The selection ceremony at which UUM was

chosen as Ambassador of Green World 2016 and Green World Leader, was held in the House of Parliament, Westminste­r, London, in November 2016.

The Green World Awards is organised by The Green Organisati­on, an internatio­nal body establishe­d in 1994 as an independen­t, non-profit, and non-political organisati­on. The body recognises and rewards organisati­ons that promote best practices in environmen­tal care around the world.

The Global Silver Medal for Education & Training was won by Amman Arab University, Jordan, while the Global Bronze Medal went to Oxford Brookes University, England.
