TEEN’S WISH UNFULFILLED
Father of 18-year-old dies in car crash two days before SPM results announced
EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD Tan Jin Jin was looking forward to collect her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results with her father today.
However, that is no longer possible as he was killed in an accident on Tuesday night.
Tan’s father, Siew Hock, 57, and his two friends, Chuah Yeong Boon, 39, and Chuah Soon Kok, 62, died when the car they were travelling in collided with a crane at Km 42 of Jalan Teluk Intan — Sitiawan at Batu 14 Lekir on Tuesday night.
Two others in the car, Ang Kok Keong, 48, and Lai Kim Hooi, 62, suffered serious injuries and were admitted to Hospital Seri Manjung (HSM).
In the 11.15pm incident, the Toyota Altis that the five friends were in crashed into the crane while on their way back from a dinner at Sungai Tiang in Bagan Datuk.
“Yesterday (Tuesday) morning, my father and mother sent me to a driving school in a car. That was the last time I saw him.
“This is a trial for me. I’m not sure whether to collect my SPM results after everything (burial) is done, or wait for my brother, who is working in Singapore, to arrive.
“My two sisters, who are also working there, have been informed of the accident.
“My younger sister is accompanying mother at home,” she said at HSM yesterday.
Meanwhile, Yeong Boon’s eldest child, Cheng Zhe, 14, said he last saw his father after school when he returned home to take the motorcycle as he worked part-time.
“Everything was normal,” said the eldest of four siblings.
Manjung police district chief Assistant Superitendent of Police Tengku Mohd Zailan Tengku Ahmad Shah said the crane driver was detained under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 to facilitate investigation.
