Azmin denies ‘tok lebai’ remark is about Nik Abduh
SHAH ALAM: PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali yesterday denied allegations that he was referring to a particular individual in his recent tweet about a tok lebai.
Azmin had, on Tuesday, tweeted: “Ada tok lebai nak tawan Selangor. Kawasan sendiri pun kalah tersungkur (A tok lebai wants to take over Selangor. But he lost at his own constituency).”
The tweet had drawn the ire of sev- eral Selangor Pas Youth divisions, which claimed that Azmin was referring to Pas Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Aziz.
Nik Abduh had recently failed to wrest the Pas Pengkalan Chepa division deputy chief’s post from incumbent Dr Izani Husin.
In an interview with a Malay daily recently, Nik Abduh said Pas wanted to take over Selangor in the next general election.
Azmin, however, refused to say whether he was referring to Nik Abduh in the tweet.
“Who is that tok lebai? Did I mention any name? There are tok lebai in PKR, too,” Azmin said after the launch of the Stray Free Selangor programme at the Shah Alam Convention Centre here yesterday.
On another issue, Azmin said PKR would continue taking the lead to bind the opposition bloc together despite Pas closing it doors following Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s entry into the Pakatan Harapan pact.
He said discussions between PKR and Pas on the possibility of a partnership during the next polls were still progressing.
“We will not give up discussions (with Pas).
“The process is ongoing. We have discussions every day,” said Azmin.
