Umno man: Conduct debate on April 1
ALOR STAR: Pokok Sena Umno divisional vice-chief Haris Che Mat has proposed that his debate with Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir be held on April 1.
Haris said the debate should start at 3pm and be held in Jerlun, but this would depend whether a police permit could be obtained.
“March 29, as suggested by Mukhriz is too soon. Allow me to fully recover from my back pain before the debate,” he said yesterday.
Haris, once a special officer to Mukhriz when he was menteri besar, said he preferred to conduct the debate in Jerlun as the main issue for discussion was about the wealth amassed by Mukhriz.
It was reported that Mukhriz, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) deputy president, had accepted the challenge. He had said it should be held in Pokok Sena instead of Jerlun as suggested by Haris.
On another note, Haris denied that he was trying to avoid the debate with Mukhriz after a photo of him in a hospital had gone viral on social media.
Haris said he went to the hospital to get treatment for his back pain, which he had been suffering since yesterday.
“I was told to rest after receiving an injection.
“I am feeling much better after taking some medication,” he said.
Haris said the pain was from injuries that he sustained more than 10 years ago.
