Organiser waiting for DAP adviser’s response
KUALA LUMPUR: DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang has yet to accept a challenge to debate with Umno information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa, which is to be held at the end of next month.
Debate organiser Pertubuhan Pembela Nasib Melayu Malaysia said it was expecting a response from Lim’s staff by today.
Its secretariat chairman, Dr Ammar Hassan, said Annuar had “unofficially accepted” the challenge last week via WhatsApp.
“If both parties agree, we will hand them our official invitations in Parliament this week.
“The debate could be held at the end of next month,” he said at a press conference yesterday.
The debate, dubbed “Lim Kit Siang a Racist Politician, Dictator and Anti-Islam” is being proposed to be held at the Putra World Trade Centre, with an expected turnout of 1,000 people.
“The two men have been attacking each other verbally in Parliament.
“So, we invite them to a public debate to give the people a clear understanding of the situation,” Ammar said.
Lim had labelled Annuar the “father of all racists” and in return, Annuar labelled Lim “a racist, anti-Islam and dictator”.
Ammar said he was confident that both parties would show up at the debate because failure to do so would affect their respective parties.
“This is also a good time for them to debate publicly as the general election is near,” he said.
Ammar said he would apply for a police permit once the date for the debate was set.
“We don’t think Annuar and Lim will bring unruly supporters to create trouble because that will reflect badly on them.
“However, the police will be present,” Ammar said.
