‘I WILL BE MYSELF’
Actress-TV host Sherry Alhadad could not believe her luck when the offer to co-host ‘Muzik Muzik’ fell into her lap, writes BIBI NURSHUHADA RAMLI
ACOUPLE of weeks ago, she co-hosted an episode of TV3’s weekly music chart show Muzik Muzik, replacing actress Amyra Rosli who was feeling under the weather due to her pregnancy.
Initially, Sherry Alhadad was on the show for a guest appearance, but the 32-year-old actress and television host must have left a deep impression on the production team that she was offered a one-year contract as host right after the live show.
“I have no clue why they chose me,” Sherry told the New Straits Times yesterday.
“I was pleasantly surprised by the offer. I’m honoured to be part of Muzik Muzik, a television programme that was first aired 31 years ago and is synonymous with the TV station. I take this responsibility seriously.”
The show, which airs on Mondays at 11pm, has its slew of wellknown former hosts. Sherry’s favourites are Cheryl Samad and Fara Fauzana.
“Instead of focusing on giving something different, I’d just give my style of presentation to the show. In short, I’ll be myself,” said Sherry, adding that her co-host, Hefny Sahad, had been very supportive.
Despite being dizzy with delight, she could not escape the jitters at the thought of co-hosting the iconic show.
Prior to Muzik Muzik, the Sarawak-born has co-helmed other shows like Melodi, Diva Kelakarama , Perang Bibir and Rockanova.
A former lecturer who taught theatre at the National Arts, Culture and Heritage Academy, she insisted that she would always be known as an actress first.
But in recent times, Sherry has been getting many hosting jobs which she gladly took up.
Last year, she became a guest host for an episode of TV3’s talkshow Wanita Hari Ini.
“When I host, I usually use colloquial language which creates a conversational tone, giving a more casual and relaxed effect.
“Only minutes into the show I realised that I cannot do that on Wanita Hari Ini! Those hosting the show need to have flair in Malay where the conversation is more formal.
“And so, I tried not to talk so much... only when spoken to,” said Sherry, who appeared on the show with permanent co-hosts Fiza Sabjahan and Hazreena Kassim.
Looking up at the two who seemed to be quick in their thinking and reply, she accepted the fact that she was nowhere as skilled as them.
“I am not ready for Wanita Hari Ini just yet. But, I’m glad that I got the opportunity to be part of it even for an episode,” said the performing arts graduate, who will be co-hosting the Anugerah Drama Festival Kuala Lumpur on Sunday with actress Rita Rudaini and Kool FM announcer AG.
