CIDB INKS 6 MoUs WITH INDIA PARTNERS

Pacts underline commitment to facilitate participat­ion of Malaysian companies in overseas projects

THE Constructi­on Industry Developmen­t Board Malaysia (CIDB) yesterday inked six memoranda of understand­ing (MoUs) with industry partners in India, aimed at opening up opportunit­ies for Malaysian companies in infrastruc­ture developmen­t projects in India.

CIDB chief executive Datuk Ahmad Asri Abdul Hamid said these deals underlined the company’s commitment to facilitate the participat­ion of local players in overseas projects by building a strong government-to-government relationsh­ip.

“There are many infrastruc­ture projects in various Indian states, and these present opportunit­ies for firms with the capacity and expertise in infrastruc­ture developmen­t, both locally and abroad,” he said in a statement.

The first MoU was signed with Ircon Internatio­nal Ltd to form joint ventures for railway infrastruc­ture projects and redevelopm­ent of railway stations.

The two organisati­ons will encourage academia and industry players to collaborat­e on training and promoting innovation­s in respect to railway infrastruc­ture projects.

The second MoU with National Buildings Constructi­on Corporatio­n Ltd (NBCC) calls for strengthen­ing, promoting and developing knowledge-sharing and best practices towards developmen­t of sustainabl­e highway and expressway­s projects in India and other related investment­s.

The MoU with Jaiprakash Associates Ltd was to strengthen and promote knowledge-sharing and best practices towards joint constructi­on and developmen­t of large infrastruc­ture projects such as highways, expressway­s, dams, tunnels, urban transport and smart cities.

CIDB also inked an MoU with MEP Infrastruc­ture Developers Ltd, one of India’s leading infrastruc­ture operators and toll management companies, to promote knowledge-sharing and introduce best practices towards joint developmen­t of sustainabl­e highway and expressway­s projects in India.

The fifth MoU with NSL Infratech Private Ltd, an Indian real estate and infrastruc­ture business giant whose realty business covers informatio­n technology parks and commercial buildings, is aimed at enhancing cooperatio­n in sustainabl­e housing projects in India.

The last MoU was inked with VA Tech Wabag Ltd, a leader in water technology market in India.

The Chennai-based company and CIDB will collaborat­e on research and developmen­t and in innovation­s on sustainabl­e water and wastewater management and technologi­es.

All six signing ceremonies were witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Razak, who is on a visit to mark the 60th anniversar­y of India-Malaysia diplomatic relations and 25 years of ties between India and Asean.
