Safeguard welfare of pilgrims, TH told
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has called on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) to focus on safeguarding the welfare of pilgrims and its 9.1 million depositors, besides boosting its corporate involvement.
This was Najib’s key message when opening TH’s one-day retreat here yesterday, which was attended by industry leaders and stakeholders.
TH chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said Najib stressed on the importance of looking after the pilgrims’ interest, including their accommodation, food and health.
“The prime minister also touched on the importance of maintaining TH’s integrity and corporate governance,” he said after a closed-door session with Najib at the retreat.
Abdul Azeez said Najib wanted the industry leaders to give their views on the types of investments that TH should venture into.
Present were Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Ministers in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan and Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, TH chief executive officer Datuk Johan Abdullah and Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah.
Abdul Azeez said the resolutions from yesterday’s retreat would be compiled into a book as a guideline for TH’s future plans.
