SPONSORSHIP for the KL2017 Sea Games and Asean Para Games has reached RM70.5 million, which includes cash components of RM21mil and incline component of RM49mil following AirAsia’s insertion as the Official Airlines Partner yesterday.

Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the sponsorship target is at 88 per cent and the full projection will be met within the next month.

“Our target is RM80mil, we’re almost there,” he said.

“I’m trying to close a couple more deals and within the next month or so, we will come close to our target.”

Meanwhile, regarding the KL2017 management meeting that will be held today, Khairy said discussions regarding the venues and closing ceremony announcements will be made.

There has been speculation the closing ceremony will be held a day ahead of the scheduled Aug 31 (to coincide with Malaysia’s Independence Day), but Khairy declined to comment. “We will be making the announcement on the closing ceremony date, there might be an adjustment to the date that will be announced tomorrow (today).”
