Malaysia on fire in Asian Schools

-

MALAYSIAN schoolboys have been ruling Bhopal, India, after scoring 52 goals and conceding none in the ongoing Asian Schools hockey tournament.

Malaysia are made up of three Junior Hockey League (JHL) sports schools under the Thunderbolts banner and will play Singapore in the semi-finals.

Singapore are expected to be hit by double digits as well, while in the other semi-final, India are the raging favourites over China.

In the group stage, Malaysia hammered UAE 19-0, Sri Lanka 19-0 and China 14-0.

The three schools who have contributed players are Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS), Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) and Temerloh Sports School.

However, the three schools might face some problems when they return home on Friday and immediately play in the JHL.

In their absence, Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) Young Guns have been in the Division One limelight and lead the standings with two wins after three matches.

“Its good that Malaysia are doing well in the Asian Schools’ but these players might find it difficult to jump into the JHL after a day’s rest.

“For us, we must work on this ‘advantage’ to steal points against BJSS on Sunday,” said UniKL coach Arul Selvaraj. Jugjet Singh
