Bumi Armada, Sunway Hotels announce appointments

KUALA LUMPUR: Bumi Armada Bhd has appointed former partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Uthaya Kumar K. Vivekananda as its independent and non-executive director.

The company said the appointment, effective yesterday, also sees Uthaya Kumar appointed as a member of the Audit Committee, Remuneration Committee and Nomination and Corporate Governance Committee.

In a statement, Bumi Armada said he was with PwC for 35 years and had worked with multinational and blue-chip national clients in audit, business advisory, mergers and acquisitions, valuations, privatisations, initial public offerings and cross-border transactions.

Meanwhile, Sunway Hotels & Resorts, the hospitality division of property-construction conglomerate Sunway Group, has appointed Michael Monks as general manager for Sunway Putra Hotel.

Prior to that, he served as general manager at Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa in Fiji, ShangriLa’s Golden Flower Hotel Xi’an, China, Shangri-La Hangzhou, China and Traders Hotel Manila, the Philippines.

“Given the importance of China as one our strategic growth markets, his extensive market knowledge augers well as Sunway activates several partnerships in driving stronger hotel performance.” said Sunway Hotels & Resorts chief executive officer Albert Cheong.
