Director Saw to produce 2017 SEA Games opening, closing events
AWARD-WINNING director Saw Teong Hin could well be on his way to undertake the biggest production of his life: The opening and closing ceremonies of the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games Kuala Lumpur 2017 in August.
The opening ceremony for the games will be held on Aug 19 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, while the closing ceremony will coincide with Malaysia’s 60th Merdeka Day.
Sources told the New Straits Times that Saw would be part of a bigger team undertaking the mammoth production task.
“As in all regional and international sporting events, the opening and closing ceremonies take centre stage.
“We expect the same for the SEA Games in August,” said the source.
According to the official 29th SEA Games website at kualalumpur2017.com.my, the chief of the armed forces is chairing the Opening and Closing Ceremonies committee.
George Town-born Saw, 54, is the man behind the celebrated 2004 epic fantasy period movie Puteri Gunung Ledang, which saw him winning the Best Director award at the 18th Malaysian Film Festival in the following year.
The founder of Real Films, Saw has more than 20 years experience in producing and directing advertisements, television programmes, music videos, musicals and movies.
This marks the country’s sixth time hosting the SEA Games.
“Rising Together” is the theme for this year’s Games.
