STAMPS IN HONOUR OF NEW KING
200,000 copies available at 60 sen each

THE country’s biggest postal service, Pos Malaysia Bhd, has unveiled a specially designed commemorative stamp to mark the installation of the new Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V on Monday.
The stamp, named “The King as the Head of the Nation”, displays the image of Sultan Muhammad V in an official black dress. Surrounding the image is an elegant pattern in gold ink printing.
Pos Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh said only 200,000 copies of the commemorative stamp were printed, priced at 60 sen each.
“The stamp comes with a miniature sheet that displays the image of the sultan taking the oath of office as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong in a ceremony held at Istana Negara in December last year. There will be 30,000 copies printed, priced at RM5.30 each.
“Other limited philately products are also available including stamp sheets (5,000 copies, priced at RM12.70 each); First Day Covers (35,000 pieces, priced at 55 sen without stamp and RM1.15 with stamp); cancellation marks that reads Dirgahayu Tuanku; and, a folder (2,000 pieces, priced at RM6.35 each).
“Customers can also purchase the complete folder set, which comes with the commemorative stamp, at RM44.10.”
Shukrie said the stamp, as well as the other philately products, would be made available at all Pos Malaysia branches nationwide on Monday.
However, Perlis, Kedah and Negri Sembilan branches would only sell them on Tuesday.
Pos Malaysia Bhd stamp and philately unit head Diyana Lean Abdullah said the products were designed in collaboration with Istana Negara.
“It took us two to three weeks to design the stamp and the other philately products, including getting endorsement from Istana Negara.”
The installation ceremony will be held at Balairung Seri of Istana Negara here on Monday morning.
It will be followed by a royal dinner at the palace’s Dewan Santapan.
Muzium Negara will hold a special exhibition in conjunction with the ceremony.
