On the aspect of economy and jobs, he said the youth wanted the government to futureproo­f the economic and national developmen­t plans by taking into account changes that were expected to take place in the future.

He said building an ecosystem that allowed entreprene­urial activities to take place was a popular aspiration among youth.

On education and training, he said the main themes raised included having single-stream schools and minimal education cost from the preschool to tertiary level.

“There is no conclusion yet on these two matters because they have to be deliberate­d in phase two (to prepare early inputs for TN50),” he said, adding that virtual learning without relying on textbooks were other ideas shared by youth.

Khairy said other aspiration­s the students were involved.”

Disciplina­ry action must be taken on the students, he said, adding that such activities and actions should not be tolerated.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanath­an voiced his disappoint­ment on the incident that as it showed students shared by them on the aspect of social values included having a society that celebrated difference­s and diversitie­s.

He said the youth aspired to see a future Malaysia without cars or taxis, instead relying on an efficient public transporta­tion system, adding that those in Sabah wanted to have a railway network in their state.

Khairy said his ministry had collected 26,000 aspiration­s from more than half a million youth in the past 90 days from six main channels including telephone interviews, online surveys and dialogues organised by the ministry and other agencies.

For phase two, Khairy invited youth who wanted to take part or propose those whom they felt should be in the circles tasked to deliberate further on their aspiration­s and ideas.

“If we choose all of the members, we might have overlooked individual­s who had a particular expertise that can contribute to the circles of the future,” he said, adding that those interested could apply via www.mytn50.com/circles/registrati­on starting today until May 12.

For those aged over 40, Khairy said they could contribute as subject experts. supporting criminal gangs.

Aside from action taken by the police, he said the school’s higher authoritie­s had been called to assist in the investigat­ion.

The state education department director had been requested to give a full report on the incident, he said.
