aspirations, about 80 per cent, collected from youth were on jobs and the economy followed by environment, sustainability, education and training, societal values as well as governance.
On the aspect of economy and jobs, he said the youth wanted the government to futureproof the economic and national development plans by taking into account changes that were expected to take place in the future.
He said building an ecosystem that allowed entrepreneurial activities to take place was a popular aspiration among youth.
On education and training, he said the main themes raised included having single-stream schools and minimal education cost from the preschool to tertiary level.
“There is no conclusion yet on these two matters because they have to be deliberated in phase two (to prepare early inputs for TN50),” he said, adding that virtual learning without relying on textbooks were other ideas shared by youth.
Khairy said other aspirations the students were involved.”
Disciplinary action must be taken on the students, he said, adding that such activities and actions should not be tolerated.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan voiced his disappointment on the incident that as it showed students shared by them on the aspect of social values included having a society that celebrated differences and diversities.
He said the youth aspired to see a future Malaysia without cars or taxis, instead relying on an efficient public transportation system, adding that those in Sabah wanted to have a railway network in their state.
Khairy said his ministry had collected 26,000 aspirations from more than half a million youth in the past 90 days from six main channels including telephone interviews, online surveys and dialogues organised by the ministry and other agencies.
For phase two, Khairy invited youth who wanted to take part or propose those whom they felt should be in the circles tasked to deliberate further on their aspirations and ideas.
“If we choose all of the members, we might have overlooked individuals who had a particular expertise that can contribute to the circles of the future,” he said, adding that those interested could apply via www.mytn50.com/circles/registration starting today until May 12.
For those aged over 40, Khairy said they could contribute as subject experts. supporting criminal gangs.
Aside from action taken by the police, he said the school’s higher authorities had been called to assist in the investigation.
The state education department director had been requested to give a full report on the incident, he said.
