KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has seen continued growth in China’s corporate meeting and incentive groups market, said the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB).

Chief executive officer, Datuk Zulkefli Sharif said the country generated RM436 million in estimated economic value from the Chinese market, which represented 62 per cent of the total corporate meetings and incentives market from 2015 to last year.

He said the success of the 7th China Roadshow in Beijing on April 18 and Shanghai on April 20 had positioned Malaysia as a goto Asian business destination.

Malaysia will continue its initiatives in other major cities, including Chengdu on April 24 and Guangzhou on April 27, to promote Malaysia as a preferred corporate meeting and incentive destination.

For seven years, Malaysia had welcomed and hosted an impressive number of corporate meeting and incentive groups from China, he said in a statement yesterday.

Zulkefli said Malaysia expected to welcome 36 million tourists and collect RM168 billion in receipts by 2020.

“The mission to China is a great opportunity to maintain strong top-of-mind presence among key incentive agents and corporate buyers. The support we have received from China’s business events thus far has been encouraging,” he said.

“We are on track to position the country as one of the top destinations in Asia Pacific for corporate meeting and incentive travels and business events.

“Given its importance to our economy, we will continue to nurture the sector and drive impactful and collaborative strategies and programmes,” he added.
