AVAN driver has been remanded after a 6year-old boy who had been left in the vehicle for three hours died of heatstroke on Friday.

The 21-year-old reportedly left the boy in the vehicle when he was supposed to have dropped him off at school for fardhu ain class.

He was arrested on Friday evening, shortly after the boy died. Police sought a remand order to detain him the same day and were granted a seven-day order to investigate the death of Muhammad Iqram Danish.

Iqram’s 38-year-old mother, Jumrah Thamrin, said the boy had been picked up by the van driver at 2pm in front of their house in Bandar Country Homes here on Friday.

The van driver was supposed to send Iqram and three other children for the fardhu ain class.

“At 5pm, the van returned to my house.

“However, I didn’t see him. Instead, the driver told me that my son had been sent to the clinic after he was found unconscious in the van.”

The driver then accompanied Jumrah to the clinic, before they drove the boy to Sungai Buloh Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, due to heatstroke.

It is learnt that Iqram had fallen asleep during the journey to the class, but the driver was not aware of this when the other children alighted.

It is understood that the driver only became aware that Iqram had remained in the vehicle when he was picking up the other children after class and saw Iqram lying unconscious.

Jumrah, however, said yesterday she had forgiven the driver for allegedly causing the death of her son.

“I’m sad and disappointed, but I choose to forgive the van driver for what had happened. I leave it to the police to investigate and take further action,” she said.

Gombak deputy police chief Superintendent Mohd Marzuki Mohd Mokhtar said police had recorded the driver’s statement, but declined further comment.
