‘Discourse healthy, helps people to get right ideas’

-

IPOH: Perak PKR supports the proposed debate between former DAP vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim and party supremo Lim Kit Siang, saying it can prove that the politics in the country is dynamic instead of being controlled by a particular group.

Its chief, Prof Dr Muhammad Nur Manuty, said he welcomed the debate.

He said such discourse was healthy and it was a practice in some developed countries.

“People can delve on it (the content) after listening to the discourses to get the right ideas,” he said after releasing the date for the state Keadilan Convention.

On PKR’s preparation for the 14th General Election, Muhammad Nur said the party was ready to contest in 21 seats, including the five they would be defending, namely Kuala Kurau, Kuala Sepetang, Simpang Pulai, Teja and Hutan Melintang.

He said the party would contest in nine parliamentary constituencies, namely Bagan Serai, Padang Rengas, Sungai Siput, Lumut, Gopeng, Tapah, Tanjung Malim, Bagan Datuk and Pasir Salak. PKR had won in Sungai Siput, Lumut and Gopeng in the last general election.

“However, we are being realistic and aware of the current changes in the country’s political landscape with the arrival of Parti Amanah Negara and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

“The discussions for seats and candidates are ongoing,” he said, adding that there would be a balanced mix of new and incumbent candidates to contest under the party flag.

He said the convention, which was scheduled to be held on April 30 at Wisma Chin Woo here, would not discuss Pas’s decision to end its ties with state DAP and PKR.

“The convention will focus on GE14, towards the unity of mind to prepare for the coming general election psychologically, boost members’ morale and logistics, as well as to avoid previous mistakes.

“It is compulsory for the states to hold the convention in conjunction with the National Keadilan Congress scheduled in Shah Alam, Selangor, next month,” he said, adding that it could be the last convention before Parliament was dissolved.

PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, representatives from Perak Pakatan Harapan from Amanah, DAP and PPBM and 350 members from 24 PKR branches in the state were expected to attend.
