‘Beware of politicians out to hoodwink you’

-

KOTA KINABALU: Be wary of seasonal politicians who are out to hoodwink the people as the general election looms, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday.

He said unlike the opposition, the Barisan Nasional government would stay with the people as it had their support and would honour the mandate given in the last election.

In a gathering at SK Tebobon in Menggatal near here, Zahid said the Sepanggar parliamentary constituency would likely see a “new chapter” and it would be implemented with a formula that would keep them united.

He said the people should “beware of the lies” being spread about the Federal Government taking away the state’s oil and gas royalty, and even Sabah itself, to give to people from Peninsular Malaysia.

“Why would I want to take away the state to give to people from the peninsula?

“Instead, I come here to give allocations and listen to the needs of the people.

“The state and federal governments have good chemistry, to the extent that it has become a natural process for both sides to discuss the people’s needs.”

Present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and Karambunai assemblyman Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid.

Musa, in his speech, quashed allegations that Sepanggar was a neglected constituency.

“There are several higherlearning institutions built here, such as Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Universiti Teknologi Mara, the Industrial Training Institute and Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, as tangible evidence of progress.”
