FOLLOWING in his family’s footsteps, Ahmad Sabir Zaini has pledged his undivided support for Umno.
Ahmad Sabir, 33, from Kelana Jaya, came to collect his Umno membership card yesterday at Menara Datuk Onn at the Putra World Trade Centre.
He said despite criticisms of Umno and its leadership, he never faltered in his loyalty.
“Criticism is good as it helps you learn and grow.
“Constructive criticism of the party and its leadership will make them stronger and enable them to serve the people better.”
Ahmad Sabir said it was crucial for the members to show solidarity with Umno so it could remain strong for the Malays and the country.
“As members, we must always be loyal towards the party and have complete trust in the leadership.
“Umno continues to fulfil the aspirations and needs of the people despite being attacked by certain parties.”
He said Umno should remain resilient in its fight.
Umno Youth member Jimmy Musa, from Kapar division, was also present at the Umno headquarters to register on behalf of members from the division.
“Eleven members could not make it here due to work commitments. A few have submitted their applications some time ago and I wanted to follow up on that.”
An officer at the Umno membership and electoral bureau said it received more than 20,000 applications for new membership since February.
The party receives no fewer than 300 new applications a day.
Currently, there are 3.6 million Umno members with 1.4 million in Wanita Umno, 609,763 in Umno Youth and 378,273 in Puteri Umno. Of the total, three million are registered voters.
Walk-in registration can be made at the party’s headquarters or via www.umno-online.my.
