BURSA Malaysia Bhd will be organising the “Bursa Malaysia Excellence Awards 2016 Gala Nite” to recognise the outstanding performance of brokers and market intermediaries for last year.

Chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tajuddin Atan said the awards ceremony, which would be held on Wednesday, was to recognise brokers and market intermediaries who were top achievers in their respective categories.

“This year, we have included new categories to also acknowledge the contribution of individuals within the broking community. Altogether, there will be 18,” he said.

The theme for this year’s event is “Recognising Malaysia’s Best”.

Tajuddin said the awards selection criteria had been further strengthened to better reflect the industry today, and evaluation was based on trading value and compliance ratings.

“For equities brokers, the number of new certificates of deposit accounts opened would also be assessed.”

Bursa Malaysia first organised the awards in 2014 to appreciate market participants’ efforts in developing the Malaysian capital market domestically and globally.

The event acknowledged brokers and market intermediaries’ contributions in creating investment opportunities for investors and increasing the depth and breadth of the capital market, including market liquidity.

Bursa Malaysia said brokers and other market intermediaries had continued to play an important role in promoting the value proposition of the local capital market in the first quarter, thus leading to a healthy foreign capital inflow.

“In the first quarter, the cumulative net foreign inflows into Malaysian equities stood at RM5.71 billion, the highest within the emerging markets in Asean,” he added.
