Helping Perlis youth grow

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth will continue to make youth’s dreams come true, said Perlis Umno Youth chief Syed Atif Syed Abu Bakar.

Following national Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin’s call for youth to be doers instead of followers, Atif said the state Youth members had spent the past three years engaging the grassroots, regardless of their political beliefs.

“In Perlis, we help youth to be independent. Instead of giving them a fish a day, we teach them how to fish because the only way to help someone build his future is to understand and help him achieve his dreams,” he told the New Straits Times.

When asked how the state Umno Youth engaged the younger generation, Atif said they did it by listening to their aspirations and then showing them the right channel.

“There was this young man who was very interested in hairdressing.

“Instead of getting him a job, we helped him get training and open a barber shop.

“We even helped in renovating and painting his shop. It was not that difficult and did not cost a lot of money.

“All you need to do is to spare some time and energy to help Malaysians.”
