Annuar: Members must have winning mentality

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno members must have a winning mentality as it is not merely a party that participates in elections.

Party information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa yesterday said Umno, with its long history and track record, had proven itself to be a party that was meant to administer the country for the betterment of the people.

“The Umno 71st Anniversary celebration should not just be an occasion for party members to wave flags.

“We need to deliver to the people with short- and long-term goals, and hence, we cannot simply promise the moon and the stars like the opposition. Party members must appreciate and understand the legacy of Umno,” he said after taking part in a talk show with Bernama yesterday.

Annuar expressed hope that the anniversary celebration, starting today, would make party members understand that “there will always be haters”.

He said Umno members needed to understand that if they were not strong and united, then they would lose confidence.

Annuar said the challenge lay in the fact that Umno was an open party where anyone could sign up to be a member without having to go through a test or filter.

“For all we know, there could be those who sign up to be a party member but want to create trouble.

“What we also need is tarbiyah (education and upbringing) for party members as part of the process to build a winning mentality.”
