THE Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) continues to delight audiences in this weekend’s concerts themed An Evening Of Mozart, Brahms And Beethoven. Held at 8.30pm tomorrow and 3pm on Sunday at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas in KLCC, Kuala Lumpur, the concerts will have the MPO play Overture To The Marriage Of Figaro composed by Mozart in 1786.

This work of scintillating brilliance, irrepressible charm and formal perfection was first performed that same year at Vienna’s Burgtheater.

Next comes Violin Concerto In D written by Brahms in 1878, a combination of ardent lyricism and architectural strength in perfect proportion.

One of the greatest works by Brahms, its premiere was given in 1879 by the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and was conducted by the composer himself.

The MPO will close the concerts with Symphony No. 4 written by Beethoven in 1806. This music stimulates the degree of esthetic satisfaction and listening pleasure.

Its private premiere took place in the Viennese town house of Prince Lobkowitz in 1807, conducted by Beethoven himself.

These showcases will be led by Kolja Blacher who will also be a featured violinist.

He has performed around the world with orchestras such as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Taiwan Philharmonic Orchestra, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and Festival Strings Lucerne.

He has also worked with many renowned conductors including Claudio Abbado, Kirill Petrenko and Vladimir Jurowski.

This will be Blacher’s second collaboration with the MPO after his debut on the DFP stage in 2013. Tickets: RM60-RM150. Call 03-2331 7007.
