DISABLED IN LABUAN GET RM101,400 AID

Chief secretary to the govt also praises those helping autistic kids

CHIEF Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa yesterday presented RM101,400 in donations from the National Associatio­n of Wives of Civil Servants and Women Civil Servants (Puspanita) to several centres for the disabled and Labuan Hospital.

He handed over a cheque for RM51,400 to the Labuan Autism Associatio­n for administra­tive expenditur­e and learning facilities, RM45,000 to Labuan Hospital, RM3,000 to Pusat Dalam Komuniti and RM2,000 to Pusat Dalam Komuniti Mutiara.

Ali, who is also Puspanita adviser, presented RM600 each to three government retirees during the “Puspanita Welfare Visit” programme here.

He also announced the approval of funds totalling RM100,000 for the purchase of a van for Labuan Autism Associatio­n.

Ali said the government was considerin­g an applicatio­n from the Labuan Internatio­nal Campus of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for government scholarshi­ps to be offered to teachers to pursue studies on the teaching of people with disabiliti­es.

“We will look at the number that can be considered as UMS is applying for 30 scholarshi­ps.

“We will have to refer to the Public Service Department.”

Ali commended Labuan Autism Associatio­n’s commitment to ensuring that autistic children received a proper education.

“The government will assist the efforts of any centre for the disabled,” he said. Bernama
