Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd opposed to surcharge

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd (TNGSB) is taking a serious view of consumers’ concerns about the imposition of a 10 per cent surcharge at some parking lots.

Its corporate sales, marketing and communications division head, Aina Abdullah, said it supported the “no surcharge fee” business model and was conducting negotiations with parking operators, building owners and interested parties to waive the surcharge.

“This effort has resulted in the establishment of nearly 20 parking sites that provide cashless services without surcharge,” she said.

“While this is a small number, TNGSB will continue to encourage current and future partners to provide Touch ‘n Go services without imposing additional fees.

“While cash is still the preferred method of payment at many parking sites, some owners and operators have also chosen to adopt the Touch ‘n Go system as it provides a safe and convenient method of payment for customers.”

She said the installation of a Touch ‘n Go system at parking sites often involved several parties, in particular the parking operator, building owner and system integrator.

“Naturally, the costs of installation, system integration and ongoing maintenance are of concern to all parties involved.

“The surcharge is a cost recovery mechanism mutually agreed on by parking operators, building owners, system integration vendors, and Touch ‘n Go to ensure that this convenient alternative is available to customers.

“TNGSB promotes a ‘no surcharge fee’ business model.

“However, the model’s successful implementation requires the cooperation of all parties concerned.

“TNGSB continues to welcome suggestions and feedback in its effort to nurture an ecosystem that provides a convenient and cost effective cashless solution for the public.”
