JPA scholar’s remains to be brought home

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The remains of Malaysian medical student Soh Zhi Min, who died in Edinburgh, Scotland, on May 31, will be brought back home soon.

The Higher Education Ministry said it had contacted Soh’s family to inform them of the incident.

The ministry said that efforts to bring back the remains were being taken by the Education Malaysia, Malaysian High Commission, Public Service Department (JPA), police, hospital and University of Edinburgh.

The ministry also advised students pursuing their studies abroad to be cautious, prioritise safety and comply with regulations, particularly when driving and managing their movements.

It was reported that Soh’s bicycle wheel got caught in a tram’s track before she fell onto the vehicle’s path and was hit by a tourist bus on Wednesday morning.

The 23-year-old, a fourth-year medical student at Edinburgh University and is a JPA scholar, was rushed to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary Hospital but died due to severe injuries.

Malaysian Netizens expressed their condolences and sympathy to Soh’s family.

Douglas Anthony described the incident as tragic: “Truly tragic, especially since she studied overseas. She could have easily related in English to Malaysian and foreigners who seek medical attention at medical facilities in the country.”

Malaysia’s International Medical University Student Representative Council said in its Twitter handle: “Soh was known to all as a caring colleague and a brilliant friend who never failed to help out those in need.

“She also played a part in our SRC as the secretary of SRC 14/15. She will be deeply missed. We would like to extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends.”
