ALL ABOARD THE ‘QURAN BUS’
25-year-old turns old bus into mobile classroom to bring Quran to the people
WHILE his peers are busy pursuing professional careers, Muhammad Allif Ibrahim, 25, focuses on charity work.
The Malacca-born lad wanted to bring the Quran closer to society, especially among the youth and children in his neighbourhood in Taman Sri Rembau here.
So, Allif and nine other likeminded friends, who call themselves “Rembau Awesome”, came up with an idea — turning an old bus into a mobile Quran classroom.
“I started teaching the Quran six years ago. Many people were interested, but could not join because of constraints.
“With this project, my friends and I envision a platform that is accessible to everyone to learn the Quran.
“We hope that there will be no excuses for them not to be able to come to class. We will bring the class to them.”
The bus, which was bought for RM6,000, was turned into a classroom, which fits up to 30 people at a time.
The project was funded by Quran classes held at his rental house here.
“We have 62 students taking Quranic lessons from Monday to Thursday. The fee is RM30 per month per person, and we have two other trainers.
“Half of what we got from the classes went to the project, which needed about RM10,000.
“We shared the project’s progress on our Facebook page, Pusat Pengajian Taman Al Quran, and responses from the public have been overwhelming.”
The “Quran Bus” started operation early this year.
“We also have students from poor families. To lessen their burden, we fetch them from their houses and send them home.
“Classes are also free for them. We even give them RM5 every time they attend. We just want to help them and spur the love of the Quran,” said Allif, who is a father of one.
Rembau Awesome is planning to build a second Quran Bus.
“We will be organising a breaking-of-fast event at Pusat Dakwah Islamiah Paroi Seremban on June 17. Those who wish to donate can do so and be a part of the project.”
