Govt to build more PPA1M houses
PUTRAJAYA: The government will increase the number of houses under the 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing Project (PPA1M) from 100,000 to 200,000 units.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the government would find the land to build the extra homes scheduled for completion by 2020.
“The additional units will be built nationwide. As most of the civil servants live here, Klang Valley and here will have the most number of homes,” he said here yesterday.
Earlier, Najib handed over mock keys to 15 house owners of the Selasih PPA1M at Presint 17 here.
This symbolically marked the completion of the Selasih PPA1M project, which offers 1,000 apartment units, including 424 measuring 1,000sq ft, 288 units (1,200sq ft) and 288 units (1,500sq ft).
The house owners also received their strata title from the prime minister.
Najib said: “The government has ensured that the PPA1M project will be of high quality in its design and finishing touches.”
Present were Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, and Putrajaya Corporation president Datuk Seri Hasim Ismail.
PPA1M has the objective of increasing the supply of affordable housing, priced from RM150,000 to RM300,000, for civil servants.
The government subsidy for this project is valued at between RM25,000 and RM38,000, based on the size of each house.
Najib said the amount of subsidies would be about RM50,000 or more, as the price of the house did not include the land value, which was not free.
He said the maintenance fee of PPA1M units was fixed at a reasonable rate of 0.16 sen per square feet.
Civil servants working for the federal and state governments, the local authorities and federal statutory bodies are eligible to purchase PPA1M homes.
One of the house owners who received the strata title for the Selasih PPA1M unit was Lina Suhani Mokhtardin, who is an assistant accountant at the Accountant General’s Department.
Accompanied by her husband, Mohd Firdaus Hassim, the 33year-old said she and her family would move into their new home once they received the key.
“My four children are excited to shift to the new home. Every time we drive by the Selasih PPA1M building on the way to school, my eldest daughter, who is 7, will ask when we will move in,” said Lina.
