‘THERE IS STILL SOME GOOD IN PUTERI’

Her villainous role in ‘Hero Seorang Cinderella’ is not Uqasha Senrose’s first, but it opens viewers’ eyes to her acting abilities, writes BIBI NURSHUHADA RAMLI

ACTRESS Uqasha Senrose’s antagonistic character in television drama series Hero Seorang Cinderella has been getting so much hate since it premiered last month.

In it, she plays Puteri, a spoiled brat who is bent on making her stepsister Medina’s (Nur Fazura) life a living hell.

Puteri is so vile that viewers are flooding Uqasha’s Instagram posts with hate messages, condemning the character’s behaviour towards the series’ heroine.

However, the 24-year-old rebuts the idea that this negative feedback is also the result of fans’ displeasure towards her past controversies.

Most recently, she removed her hijab last September after donning it for three years, prompting Netizens to bombard her with criticism.

“Puteri is only a character in Hero Seorang Cinderella and it has nothing to do with my personal life,” she said at the launch of Astro’s Raya programmes at Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur recently.

“Reading the comments is encouraging, no matter how nasty they are. That must mean that my acting has been convincing enough to trigger such anger,” she said.

Uqasha’s first antagonistic role was for Michael Ang’s drama series Syurgaku Tak Sempurna, which aired last January.

Born Nik Zaris Uqasha Senrose Nik Sen, she is thankful that at least when the 24-episode drama’s fans meet her in person, they did not verbally lash out at her.

Making up for the negative reception is the positive reaction from fans who were impressed by her portrayal in Hero Seorang Cinderella, also directed by Ang.

“Puteri isn’t entirely evil. It’s just that her mother (played by Datin Zizie Ezette) has been such a bad influence on her. There is still some good in Puteri that viewers will eventually see.

“I’m glad to portray a villain realistically. It’s a challenge for me as an actress.”

Uqasha is thrilled to showcase her craft instead of allowing her past mistakes to overshadow her involvement in the industry.

“Besides that, one of the greatest joys of working on Hero Seorang Cinderella is Fazura, who has been so generous in giving pointers.

“When I couldn’t nail a scene, she didn’t break my spirit but instead encouraged me to improve.”

Hero Seorang Cinderella, which airs Mondays to Thursdays at 10pm on Astro Ria (Channel 104/123), will see its final episode on June 29.
