AN online Casanova is believed to be on the prowl, tricking unsuspecting lonely hearts into thinking that they are helping him with his business.

MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said the 33year-old known as Vic had been cheating women into getting business loans for him in exchangefor his hand in marriage. However, he would disappear after getting money from the victims.

One of his victims, Linda, said she fell into his trap after a month of meeting the Casanova, believed to be from Ampang, last year.

Linda said Vic had promised to pay her back in monthly instalments of RM900 after she took up a loan of RM17,000 to help him with his lorry business.

“He even showed me that his company was registered under the Companies Commission of Malaysia back in May 2016. That’s why I believed him,” said the 36-year-old account executive from Klang.

After Vic went missing, she found out that he was already married.

“I found a woman on his Facebook page and she said that they had been married for three years. She apologised to me for my troubles,” she said.

“Now all I want is my money back. The last time we had contact was in November after I demanded that he pay back all the money he borrowed from me,” she said.

She hoped to warn other unsuspecting women about characters like him.

“Be very cautious of men who are overly charming in their ways because they may have something up their sleeves,” she said.

Linda said she had to pay off RM7,000 and RM10,000 to money lenders and a bank respectively.

MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong hoped Linda’s story would encourage other victims to come forward and tell their stories as well.
