ANALYSTS SAY GE14 LIKELY IN APRIL
GEORGE TOWN: Political parties in Penang have started their preparatory groundwork for the 14th General Election.
State Gerakan vicechairman Oh Tong Keong said the party had begun its work early and was prepared for the general election.
“We have completed most of our preliminary work, including preparation of flags,
T-shirts, choosing campaign workers and volunteers.
“We are now merely fine-tuning a few details. Other issues, such as community engagement and visits to constituencies, are part of our usual work, which has been going on for years,” he said.
Oh said Gerakan was just waiting for the announcement on the dissolution of Parliament.
“Of course, the matter of candidates has yet to be finalised. Those issues will be dealt with by the higher-ups later.”
He said the party was optimistic of its polls performance in Penang.
“We expect to perform much better.”
State DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the party was working on its first phase of preparation for the election.
“We are working on mobilising members through training and meeting, organising ceramah, disseminating publicity materials, community engagement, visiting constituencies, preparing flags, and T-shirts, choosing campaign workers and volunteers and training them as polling and counting agents.
“All these are ongoing. By the time Parliament is dissolved, all this must be completed. We will start finalising the candidate lists, preparing election campaign schedule, securing campaign funds by nomination day,” he said.
A state Election Commission spokesman said preparations for the general election were ongoing. Most of the groundwork has been completed.
“We are engaging with schools and working on training the volunteers,” he said.
