THE Registry of Societies (RoS) has instructed Pakatan Harapan to amend its logo to include its full name instead of just “Harapan”. Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said RoS had given several guidelines on designing political logos and advised the coalition to come out with a new one.

“We met with RoS officers to submit the application to register as an official party. They have no issues with our constitution, but they have ordered us to change our logo.

“They said the current logo is not suitable, as it only carries the word ‘Harapan’. They want us to include ‘Pakatan Harapan.’

“We accept this advice and will comply with it.

“We will come out with the new logo in two days and submit it to RoS as soon as possible,” he said after submitting Pakatan Harapan’s application to register as a formal coalition here yesterday.

He said RoS also made it clear that the logo must be changed if Pakatan Harapan wanted its registration to be approved.

Present were Pakatan Harapan president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, PPBM deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) president Mohamad Sabu, DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke and DAP vice-president Teresa Kok.

The Pakatan Harapan coalition is made up of four parties, namely PPBM, DAP, PKR and PAN.

The existing logo, first unveiled on July 14, only has the word “Harapan” on it.

Dr Mahathir, who is also PPBM chairman, expressed confidence that a new logo would be ready in two days.

“We will discuss it with professional designers and study their suggestions,” said the former prime minister.

Dr Mahathir said it was important for the coalition to be registered with RoS early as it would help facilitate preparations for the upcoming general election.

“Although RoS did not give any timeframe to resubmit the application, we will do so as soon as possible. Otherwise, it will be hard for us to produce our posters, T-shirts and banners for the general election.”

He said Pakatan had earlier submitted an online application to register the coalition on Monday.

“So far, RoS has no problems with it (the constitution). They said they will study it and decide later. We not only want to adhere to the legal aspects, but also other matters. We are willing to comply with RoS’ conditions.

“If there is no instruction to change the constitution, we hope RoS will approve our registration immediately.”

On another matter, Mohamad Sabu said Pakatan Harapan’s mass rally on Oct 14 would continue as planned.

When asked if the coalition had obtained a permit for the rally, the PAN president said: “We are working on it.”

The rally, to be held at Padang Timur in Petaling Jaya, will focus on issues relating to the alleged corruption and mismanagement of 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
