BNSC deputy director tired of waiting, plans to sue Guan Eng

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional Strategic Communications (BNSC) deputy director Eric SeeTo plans to sue Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He said he was tired of waiting for the latter to carry out his threat of suing him.

“As of today, almost four weeks after his threat to sue, I have yet to receive any legal letter from Lim or his lawyers.

“As I am tired of waiting for the letter from Lim, I have instructed my lawyers to issue a letter of demand to him by next week to comply with my demands, failing which, I shall commence a suit against him.

“In my suit, I will demand that Lim and/or the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) prove that I had ever issued a statement that said Lim had made such a statement or a speech on July 1, 2017, in the DAP Penang Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house in Jawi, Nibong Tebal — the alleged issue that the CMO’s statement deemed as defamatory,” See-To said yesterday.

Lim’s press statement on July 1, 2016, had claimed that the state’s residents were angry that the “leader of a clean government” had been charged with corruption, and that the RM400 million in donations under the state’s I-sejahtera programme was under threat.

See-To said his suit was to ensure that Lim took responsibility for his public statements instead of accusing others of defamation. “I also want Lim and/or the CMO to prove that the following statement did not come from his press statement dated July 1, 2016.

“It is also to send a message to him that he cannot, and must not, be allowed to repeatedly use legal avenues to silence his critics or the media organisations that are just doing their job to carry the messages of his critics,” he said.
