Cartoonist and comedian Imuda becomes a dad again at 57
WHILE many of his peers have become grandparents, Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu’s popular star Abdul Rahim Muda or Imuda is delighted to be a “daddy” again at 57.
The Bukit Mertajam-born actor, cartoonist and occasional singer greeted his fourth child, Raysya Zara, at 8.08pm on July 23.
His wife, Zabarina Ali, 34, gave birth to the 2.8kg baby at Hospital Adventist, Jalan Burmah in George Town, Penang.
“This month of Syawal has been a blessing for me. I’m a ‘daddy’ again for the fourth time,” he told the New Straits Times recently.
Imuda, best known for playing motor-mouthed Budin in Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu and “softy” Sam in 2+1 may be overjoyed with Raysya’s birth, but he admitted that his parents-in-law were the ones who had every reason to be over the moon.
“Raysya is their very first grand daughter, and she was preceded by six grandsons,” said Imuda, who also has a 7-year-old son Rayyan with Zabarina.
Besides Rayyan and Raysya, Imuda has two older children, Raihana, 22, and Raizal, 16, from a previous marriage.
“My new baby girl is truly God’s gift after six years of waiting patiently. My wife suffered two miscarriages during this period, but we never gave up hope.”
Imuda, who appears in Astro Warna’s comedy show Lawak Ke Der? and sketches the Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu comic strip for Berita Harian, will be having a kenduri (thanksgiving) to mark Raysya’s birth at the end of next month.
Imuda began his cartooning career in the comic magazine Gila Gila in 1978, and subsequently became involved in television and theatre acting.
He starred in Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu from 1985 to 2004 and appeared in 2+1 from 1989 to 1992.
He also starred in movies 1986’s Balik Kampung, Kembara Seniman Jalanan (1990), Mat Som (1990), Hati Bukan Kristal (1990) and Aji Noh Motor (2012).
Imuda, who teamed up with comedians Sathiya and Sulaiman Yassin aka Mat Over, as the comedy troupe Pi Mai in Maharaja Lawak Mega 2011, has also performed a duet, titled Rilek Brader, with Singaporean singer Art Fazil in 2013. By Dennis Chua
