FOR Amar Asyraf, acting goes beyond just memorising the script. It is also about going the extra mile to effectively deliver a portrayal. That explains why he dared to act out several intimate scenes with his co-star Nadia Brian for the upcomthriller ing horror Blok 404. “That’s what was required of me. And for all of my roles, I try to give 100 per cent commitment since it is my responsibility as an actor,” said the 30-year-old artiste at the film’s press conference at ConHotel corde Kuala Lumpur resaid cently.

“What you see in the trailer is nothing much. Expect to see more between the sheets action in the film,” he said cheekily.
The film has already been given the go-ahead by the Film Censorship Board (LPF) to be screened.
A reboot of the 2003 film of the same name, Blok 404 sees Hairi (Amar), his girlfriend Intan (Nadia) and good friend Zul (Boy Iman) seeking shelter from Guesthouse 404, only to uncover the building’s dangerous dark secrets.
The Melaka-born, who won Best Male Actor at the Anugerah Skrin 2015, said in spite of how “daring” the scenes were, his wife, Arna Salleh, 32, had been understanding and supportive.
“She understands how passionate I am towards acting. She knows that I wouldn’t be satisfied unless I immerse myself into my character.”
Such a daring attempt will naturally attract criticism and wrath from the public, but Amar said he was ready to face the music.
“It’s just acting. Besides, Arna was present at the set when we filmed the scenes.”
Amar is optimistic that audience will see that the scenes are needed to explain the story of Hairi and Intan who enjoy publicising their relationship on social media.
Amar’s Hairi is a party animal, a role he has never played before. Not much of a partygoer in real life, the actor researched on how youths these days party.
“I visited several nightclubs in Changkat, Bukit Bintang, for three nights in a row, just to observe how people have fun.
“I believe in taking extra effort when approaching a role, instead of just looking it up online,” he said, adding that by doing so, it would give his performance the extra edge.
Directed by Isma Aizal Yusoof and produced by DBI Entertainment, Blok 404 opens in cinemas in December.
