THE world #QuranHour will be observed on Aug 31 this year, in conjunction with haj pilgrims performing the Wukuf in Arafah, Saudi Arabia.

International Islamic University (IIUM) will be hosting the event again, which will be held at its Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah mosque between 11am and 1pm.

Yayasan Warisan Ummah Ikhlas chief executive officer Marhaini Yusoff said the event would highlight the significance of the surah Yassin as it was the heart of the Quran.

Marhaini said Muslims in Malaysia read the Yassin, but rarely incorporated it into their lives.

“I hope the event this year will help Muslims realise the importance of surah Yassin and understand the real meaning of it.

“Hence, we are stressing the reading, understanding and implementing the contents of surah Yassin on daily basis during the programme,” she said.

Malaysian actor Datuk Rosyam Nor, who is also the icon for World #QuranHour, will be climbing the Kuala Lumpur Tower on foot while holding the World #QuranHour and Malaysian flags on the day of the event.

Translation from the verse cited: “That Day, we will seal over their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will testify about what they used to earn.” Rosyam walked 47km to promote World #QuranHour last September.

The programme that aims to unite Muslims across the globe, will see them reciting Quranic verses from the holy Quran and surah Yassin simultaneously for an hour.
